Meet a Maker: Nobrow

We have recently started stocking books and stationary by London based publisher Nobrow Press. We've been drooling over the vast range of storytellers and illustrators that are on their books so we thought we should find out a little bit more about them

Why did you decide to start Nobrow? Back in 2008, we felt the UK was missing a publisher specialising in visual story telling. We wanted to make beautiful books!

What are your own creative backgrounds? We both studied at different times at Central Saint Martins, so have been trained in graphic design and illustration.

What sort of work do you have on the Nobrow roster? We have a mixture of books on the Nobrow list, graphic novels, short story comics by new creators, non fiction based picture books like 101 Artists to Listen to Before You Die and the Leporello series which are just as at home hanging on the wall as they sitting on your book shelves.

Where do you find the artists, illustrators and storytellers you would like to represent?

We find them online, in zines and magazines, at degree shows and exhibitions or they find us by sending us a submission.

How many creators do you have on your roster? Since we started we’ve worked with over 350 creators.

Are there any particular qualities you look for in the work you represent? We love drawing and we love good storytelling.

Who are your favourite artists, designers and storytellers at the moment? Recent and upcoming releases are by the likes of Ricardo Cavolo, Jen Lee, Vincent Mahé, Joe Sparrow, Emmanuelle Walker, Ryan Heshka, Jeremy Sorese and many more!

You launched an iPad app this year, how have you found the transition into the digital world? It’s a new thing for us, and new things are always exciting. Digital allows us to explore some different ideas for content that compliment our printed work really nicely.
