We Are - Wood Street Studios

Our Rosie has been busy working on a project for WE ARE in Wakefield. WE ARE is a social enterprise that provides opportunities for emerging creatives and a platform for collaborative projects. Based in and around the area of Wakefield, the aim of the project is to encourage and grow Wakefield's creative scene by showing the work of local people in interesting spaces. For the Wood Street Studios project WE ARE have unlocked five empty shops on Wood Street in Wakefield for artists and collectives to use as free studio space. After and initial open call out WE ARE selected 7 different artists and collectives to take over the spaces. For 2 weeks these artists have the opportunity to transform Wood Street into open artist studios and create new work in response to the space.

The aim of the project is to create a really positive atmosphere on Wood Street, having 7 artists working there over 2 weeks will bring a real creative impact to the area whilst also giving these emerging artists a platform and free space to develop their practise and exhibit work to the public. WE ARE invite the public to visit these studios from 23rd July to see the artists at work and on the exhibition preview night on the 27th July during the Artwalk (www.artwalk.org.uk) from 5pm - 9pm.
