Sketchpad Artist - Matt Sewell
Matt Sewell is one of the twenty Outhouse artists who produced a limited edition cover for our sketchpad range. His cover design is for our A4 220gsm Cartridge Pad and is in his distinctive style. We caught up with Matt to find out about his work.
Tell us a bit about the idea behind your sketchbook cover?
My wife is always having a go at me that I don't paint girls anymore so I thought I would paint a girl rather than birds.
How did you get involved with Outhouse?
I've been painting walls around Manchester since 2003, they must of noticed and asked me to paint one of those weird toilet thingies - I painted loads of birds.
How would you describe your work?
Good vibes & sparkly eyes.
What inspires you?
Sparkly eyes and good vibes.
Who is your favourite artist or maker?
Ray Harryhausen was my first idol.
What materials do you use?
Watercolour, spraypaint, pencil & pen.
What is the favourite piece of work that you have made?
I have no idea sorry.
What exhibition or art event have you been to recently that you think is worth shouting about and why?
I don't get out much, Kaws at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park looks good though.
Do you have any advice for artists starting out?
Make your own luck, put out good vibes and they will bounce back at you.
What tip would you give to people about one of our products?
Ages ago I bought these little hooks that are attached to sticky brown paper - like on the back of an envelope.. those things are well handy for hanging small artworks.
